Joshua S. Mintz
Joshua Mintz is a partner at Cavanaugh, Hagan, Pierson & Mintz. Since joining the firm in 1992, Josh has worked with leaders of organizations to envision their desired future – and then to develop the implementation plans and strategies to turn that future vision into reality.
Josh draws upon his background in government, theology and business as a foundation for understanding the complex social and political systems that govern organizations today. His work includes conducting organizational and leadership assessments to help organizations understand where they currently are – and facilitating strategic planning processes to help organizations identify where they would like to be in the future.
Along the way, Josh supports his client's efforts by strengthening management and governance systems and structures, facilitating staff and leadership retreats, and by serving as a sounding board for clients as they think about the challenges and opportunities they face as they carry out their mission and goals. His practice focuses primarily on the needs of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations.
Josh is the author of Assessment of the Chief Executive: A Tool for Governing Boards and Chief Executives of Nonprofit Organizations and Self Assessment for Foundation Boards both published by BoardSource. He has also authored a series of articles on management and governance and is a regular speaker on nonprofit governance issues. He received his B.A. in Government from Georgetown University and his M.S. in Applied Behavioral Science with a specialization in Organization Development from The Johns Hopkins University.
Josh serves as Chairman Emeritus of College Bound, a Washington, D.C. nonprofit working to prepare D.C. public high school students to enter college, earn a degree and achieve their personal and professional goals. He also serves on the Selection Committee for the Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. Josh lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Nicole, and their three sons.
